Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to remove.
Last updated: July 1, 2026
The short version
Camp List is free to browse. We collect the minimum needed to run the site: what you searched for, which parks you viewed, and — if you sign up — your email address and password (hashed). We do not sell your data to advertisers. We never share your email without your permission.
What we collect
- Anonymous visit data. Every pageview is logged with a hashed visitor ID (built from your IP + user agent + a daily salt — we can't reverse it back to your IP). We use it to compute uniques, top pages, and referrer breakdowns.
- Account data. If you sign up, we store your email and a bcrypt hash of your password. Optional profile fields (display name, avatar) if you provide them.
- Saved lists. Which parks you saved, so we can sync them across devices.
- Cookies. One session cookie to keep you signed in. One preference cookie for search filters. See our cookie policy.
What we do NOT collect
- Location beyond what your browser explicitly shares when you use "near me" search.
- Third-party ad tracking (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel).
- Payment information — reservations are handled by the park or by our reservation partner directly.
